Growing behavioral health organization seeking a strong, hands-on Chief Financial Officer to lead the financial and operational growth of the organization.
Programs include:
- Article 31 Mental Health Services
- Article 32 Substance Use Services
- CFTSS
- HCBS
- Peer Support Services
- Care Management
This is not a traditional accounting role. We are seeking a strategic and operational finance leader who understands healthcare reimbursement, revenue cycle management, productivity metrics, grants management, forecasting, and organizational growth.
The CFO will serve as a key member of the executive leadership team, helping drive financial sustainability, operational accountability, and long-term growth across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement modern financial systems, dashboards, and reporting tools
- Create KPI-driven management structures across all departments and programs
- Track profitability, productivity, census growth, staffing ratios, reimbursement trends, and collections
- Oversee budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial reporting
- Build financial models, break-even analyses, and long-term growth projections
- Ensure billing is properly submitted, followed up on, and collected in a timely manner
- Oversee revenue cycle operations, collections, and reimbursement optimization
- Analyze Medicaid, managed care, and insurance reimbursement structures
- Manage grants budgeting, tracking, reporting, and compliance
- Conduct regular strategy meetings with department leaders to review performance and financial metrics
- Establish accountability systems and performance measurement frameworks across the organization
- Oversee payroll, accounting, financial controls, audits, CFR reporting, and regulatory compliance
- Partner with leadership on strategic planning, expansion opportunities, and organizational growth initiatives
- Identify operational inefficiencies and implement systems to improve financial performance
Qualifications
- Prior experience as a CFO, VP of Finance, Controller, or senior healthcare finance leader
- Strong understanding of healthcare finance, revenue cycle management, reimbursement models, and financial operations
- Experience with Medicaid, managed care, insurance billing, and collections
- Experience developing KPIs, dashboards, forecasts, budgets, and financial models
- Strong understanding of grants management, reporting, and compliance
- Experience implementing financial systems, reporting tools, and operational processes
- Hands-on leadership style with strong communication and organizational skills
- Experience within behavioral health, mental health, substance use, nonprofit healthcare, or related healthcare environments preferred
- Experience with OMH, OASAS, CFTSS, HCBS, or fee-for-service reimbursement models preferred
- CPA and/or MBA preferred but not required for the right candidate
