Job Overview

Accounts Receivable (AR) Manager

Newark, NJ
Salary: Up to $150,000 DOE

Hours: 9-5 or 10-6

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced, hands-on AR Manager to take full ownership of accounts receivable operations across approximately 700 customer accounts.

This is a working management role requiring someone who can lead a collections team while personally managing accounts, resolving complex billing issues, and driving collections.

The ideal candidate is a proactive, results-driven self-starter with extensive AR or credit management experience, strong collection skills, and the ability to take ownership without constant oversight. Manufacturing industry experience is strongly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the full accounts receivable process across approximately 700 customer accounts.

  • Personally manage key accounts, pursue past-due balances, and drive collections.

  • Lead and oversee collectors while remaining actively involved in day-to-day AR operations.

  • Resolve complex invoicing issues, customer disputes, deductions, and credit memos.

  • Oversee cash applications, credit applications, and account reconciliations to ensure accuracy.

  • Manage customer credit limits, account holds, and credit risk.

  • Maintain credit insurance coverage, limits, and required reporting.

  • Monitor AR aging, DSO, and collection performance, identifying opportunities to improve cash flow.

  • Proactively identify collection issues and implement solutions to reduce outstanding balances.

Qualifications

  • Extensive accounts receivable or credit management experience required.

  • Strong, proven track record in hands-on collections and managing complex customer accounts.

  • Manufacturing industry experience strongly preferred.

  • Experience with complex invoicing, EDI, or high-volume retail/distribution billing preferred.

  • Previous supervisory or team leadership experience preferred.

  • Strong understanding of credit risk, account reconciliation, and AR reporting.

  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.

  • Highly motivated, assertive, and proactive, with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.

  • Ability to balance management responsibilities with personally handling collections and accounts.

Ideal Candidate

We are looking for a go-getter who takes initiative, drives results, and isn’t afraid to get into the details. This is not a role for someone looking to solely oversee a team. The right candidate will be equally comfortable managing people and rolling up their sleeves to handle challenging accounts themselves.
