Associate Counsel
Newark, NJ | Full-Time
Salary range: $130,000+ DOE
Monday–Thursday: 8:00 AM–5:00 PM | Friday: Half-Day
Position Overview
A growing organization is seeking an Associate Counsel to support the General Counsel across transactional and commercial legal matters. This is a hands-on role with meaningful ownership of contract review, compliance support, risk identification, and day-to-day legal guidance across the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements, including SaaS agreements, professional services agreements, equipment purchases, and leases
- Provide practical legal guidance on contracts, risk, and operational matters
- Support corporate governance and regulatory compliance
- Identify legal risks and recommend business-oriented solutions
- Manage and track contract workflows and documentation
- Partner with Sales, Operations, HR, and Finance on legal needs
- Assist in managing outside counsel for specialized matters
- Support internal investigations, compliance initiatives, and policy development
Qualifications
- JD from an accredited law school and active bar admission in good standing
- 2–6 years of transactional or commercial law experience, either in-house or at a law firm
- Strong contract drafting and negotiation skills
- Ability to work independently and manage priorities with minimal oversight
- Practical, business-minded approach to legal risk
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Resourceful, efficient, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
