Job Overview

Chief Operating Officer – Field Service & Installation

Brooklyn, NY, On-Site-Full Time
$200,000–$250,000+

The Opportunity

We are a growing field-service and specialty construction company providing new installations, repairs, and recurring service throughout the Tri-State area, with continued expansion into additional markets.

We are seeking a hands-on Chief Operating Officer – Field Service & Installation with direct experience leading a technician-driven service organization.

The ideal candidate has led service managers, field technicians, installation teams, dispatch/scheduling, customer service, warehouse/parts, and supporting office operations and understands how service quality, technician productivity, customer experience, and financial performance connect.

This is a senior leadership role for an operator who can develop managers, create accountability, improve execution, and build the organizational structure required for continued growth.

This is not a corporate oversight position. We need a leader who can operate at an executive level while remaining close enough to the business to understand what is happening in the field and move quickly when something needs to change.

What You Will Own

  • Lead company-wide operations across field service, installation, scheduling/dispatch, warehouse, customer service, HR, and finance coordination.
  • Improve technician and crew utilization, scheduling, response times, service completion, callbacks, quality, and customer experience.
  • Lead, coach, and develop service managers and department leaders, creating clear ownership and accountability for results.
  • Establish and manage KPIs around service performance, field productivity, labor efficiency, customer retention, quality, and profitability.
  • Ensure installation, recurring service, warehouse/parts, and office operations work together as one coordinated operating system.
  • Identify operational bottlenecks and implement practical solutions that improve service, productivity, margin, and scalability.
  • Partner directly with ownership on organizational priorities, growth initiatives, leadership development, and operational performance.

Must-Haves

  • Senior operations leadership experience in a technician-heavy field-service organization.
  • Direct experience leading service managers, field technicians, and scheduling/dispatch functions.
  • Experience overseeing both new installation/project work and ongoing repair, maintenance, or recurring service.
  • Proven success developing managers and creating accountability through clear expectations and KPIs.
  • P&L, operating-budget, or meaningful financial accountability.
  • Demonstrated success improving service performance, productivity, customer experience, and profitability.
  • Strong executive communication skills with the ability to work effectively with ownership, managers, customers, and frontline teams.

Ideal Operating Background

The strongest candidates will have led environments where:

  • Technicians are dispatched to customer locations every day.
  • The business performs both new installations and ongoing service or maintenance.
  • Scheduling, technician availability, routing, and capacity directly impact customer experience and profitability.
  • Service managers are accountable for technician performance and customer outcomes.
  • Response time, first-time completion, callbacks, utilization, quality, and customer retention are actively measured.
  • Parts, warehouse, installation, dispatch, and field operations must stay tightly coordinated.
  • Recurring customer relationships are an important part of the business.

Relevant industries may include:

  • Commercial equipment service
  • HVAC / mechanical service
  • Commercial refrigeration
  • Fire protection
  • Elevator service
  • Plumbing
  • Electrical service
  • Security / access control
  • Building systems
  • Industrial equipment service
  • Medical or diagnostic equipment service
  • Facilities engineering / technical service
  • Specialty trades combining installation and recurring maintenance

Industry is less important than the operating model.

What Success Looks Like

  • Installation and recurring service operate predictably and efficiently.
  • Technician capacity and scheduling are proactively managed rather than constantly reacting to problems.
  • Customers receive responsive, consistent service with fewer breakdowns, callbacks, and escalations.
  • Service managers and department leaders understand their numbers, own their responsibilities, and resolve issues independently.
  • Field productivity, service quality, customer retention, and profitability improve.
  • Ownership is pulled out of routine operational problem-solving.
  • The company develops the management depth, systems, and operating discipline required to continue scaling.

Leadership Style

We are looking for a leader who is:

  • Hands-on without becoming the bottleneck
  • Strong at developing and coaching managers
  • Clear, direct, and consistent with accountability
  • Comfortable making decisions and moving quickly
  • Operationally disciplined without being overly corporate
  • Customer-focused and commercially minded
  • Able to communicate confidently at an executive level while connecting effectively with technicians and frontline employees
  • Focused on building stronger leaders and a stronger organization, not simply solving every problem personally
