Job # 5012

Director Of Operation / COO

Mai Placement

Job Overview

Chief Operating Officer

Brooklyn, NY – On-Site
$150,000 – $200,000 + Performance-Based Bonus / Growth Potential

Overview

A growing commercial services company is seeking a strong Chief Operating Officer to take ownership of day-to-day operations and ensure the business is running at a high level across sales, project management, administration, and support functions.

The company already has a strong foundation, established systems, a profitable operation, and a team in place. This is not a role for someone coming in to build everything from scratch. The priority is finding a strong, results-driven operator who can take control of the business, hold people accountable, make difficult decisions when necessary, and ensure every department is performing.

The owner is looking to step away from much of the day-to-day responsibility while remaining involved strategically. The COO will become the central point of accountability for the organization and will have significant opportunity to help drive the company to its next stage of growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of day-to-day operations across the company
  • Oversee and manage department leaders, project managers, sales staff, administrative teams, and offshore support
  • Ensure the company has the right people in the right roles across departments
  • Hold employees and managers accountable for performance and results
  • Make hiring, firing, and staffing decisions as needed
  • Ensure projects are being managed effectively and client commitments are being met
  • Oversee sales performance and ensure the company maintains the appropriate level of incoming business
  • Monitor staffing capacity and ensure the project management team can support current and future volume
  • Identify operational issues quickly and drive them through to resolution
  • Maintain strong communication and coordination between departments
  • Ensure existing systems, processes, and workflows are being followed effectively
  • Work closely with ownership while gradually assuming responsibility for the daily operation
  • Help identify opportunities to increase revenue, improve execution, and take the company to the next level

What They’re Looking For

  • Proven senior-level operational leadership experience
  • Strong track record managing a meaningful team and multiple departments
  • A decisive, confident leader who is comfortable making difficult personnel and operational decisions
  • Highly results-driven with a strong sense of accountability
  • Smart, commercially minded, and able to quickly understand how a business operates
  • Strong enough to manage both operational teams and sales-driven functions
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
  • Able to command respect and lead experienced employees without requiring constant involvement from ownership
  • Experience in construction, commercial services, project-based businesses, manufacturing, distribution, or another operationally complex environment is a plus, but specific industry experience is not required
