Job Overview

VP of Sales

Remote – Brooklyn based
$200,000 – $300,000 + Performance-Based Bonus

Overview

A growing manufacturing company with approximately $40M in revenue is seeking a hands-on VP of Sales to lead, develop, and strengthen an existing sales team while helping drive the company toward its next stage of growth.

A major focus of this role will be bringing greater data, visibility, structure, and accountability to the sales organization. The VP of Sales will dig deeply into CRM activity, pipeline data, conversion rates, meetings, opportunities, close rates, follow-up activity, and individual salesperson performance to understand exactly what is working, where opportunities are being lost, and where improvement is needed.

This person will be expected to do more than review reports. They will analyze the data, identify trends and performance gaps, understand what is driving the numbers, and make clear recommendations around coaching, training, sales processes, staffing, accountability, and overall strategy.

At the same time, this is a highly hands-on leadership role. The VP of Sales will work closely with individual salespeople, participate in ride-alongs, understand how they pitch, follow up, manage relationships, and sell the product, and combine those observations with the data to develop a complete picture of performance.

The broader objective is to professionalize and strengthen the sales organization while helping develop the strategy, team, and infrastructure required to scale the business significantly beyond its current size.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, manage, coach, and develop an existing team of approximately 9 sales professionals
  • Build a clear, data-driven understanding of how each salesperson is performing
  • Analyze CRM activity, pipeline movement, opportunities, meetings, conversion rates, close rates, follow-up activity, and other key sales metrics
  • Identify trends, bottlenecks, missed opportunities, and performance gaps throughout the sales funnel
  • Translate sales data into practical recommendations and clear action plans
  • Determine where performance issues stem from training, process, effort, strategy, product knowledge, or personnel
  • Establish meaningful KPIs and reporting that provide leadership with clear visibility into individual and overall sales performance
  • Ensure CRM data is accurate, complete, and consistently maintained
  • Regularly report findings, trends, concerns, and recommendations to ownership
  • Conduct ride-alongs and observe salespeople in real client situations
  • Evaluate sales pitches, client relationships, follow-up, product knowledge, and overall sales effectiveness
  • Provide consistent coaching, feedback, and training based on both performance data and firsthand observation
  • Identify underperformance early and implement clear improvement plans and accountability
  • Ensure the right people are in the right roles and make recommendations regarding staffing or organizational changes when needed
  • Strengthen sales processes, pipeline management, follow-up standards, and overall execution
  • Develop a more structured and consistent approach to sales training and development
  • Stay close to major opportunities and step in where additional leadership or support can help close business
  • Analyze broader customer and market trends and identify opportunities for additional growth
  • Evaluate the company’s current sales channels and go-to-market approach and recommend changes where appropriate
  • Identify opportunities to expand into new customers, channels, products, markets, or revenue streams
  • Help determine what the sales organization needs to look like in order to support growth from approximately $40M toward $100M in revenue
  • Partner closely with ownership on both day-to-day sales performance and longer-term growth strategy

Ideal Candidate

  • Proven experience successfully leading and developing a meaningful B2B sales team
  • Strong track record of improving sales performance and driving revenue growth
  • Highly analytical and comfortable digging deeply into sales data
  • Strong ability to identify patterns, diagnose problems, and turn data into actionable recommendations
  • Experienced with CRM reporting, pipeline analysis, KPIs, forecasting, and sales-performance metrics
  • Able to evaluate individual salespeople objectively based on both data and firsthand observation
  • Strong coaching and people-management skills
  • Comfortable holding salespeople accountable and addressing performance issues directly
  • Hands-on leadership style with a willingness to get into the details of individual deals and individual rep performance
  • Strong commercial instincts and ability to understand customers, products, pricing, and market opportunities
  • Strategic enough to identify new growth opportunities while remaining highly execution-oriented
  • Able to work effectively with salespeople from a range of professional backgrounds and selling styles
  • Strong communicator who can present findings and recommendations clearly to ownership
  • Driven, proactive, and motivated by building and improving an organization rather than simply maintaining one
